The Drive *Serious*

Okay, I'm starting an interest-generating drive.


The aim is threefold:



  • To get Wheately to bloody-well do stuff (as in update the pic of the week post, once in a while, etc)
  • Get everyone posting more. (As in, more than 20 posts on the entire forum a day)
  • To open the forum up to a wider audience (get people outside us here, because it really is quite a good 'general interest' forum).

For this drive, I need responsible members of our little community. I'm talking about people like Monster, Zack, Wheately, Staddon, Jamie, me and possibly some other people. We'll need to go through the forum with a fine-tooth comb and delete any personal information like phone numbers and addresses.


To do that, we'll need the forum to be closed for a period of time (I'm sure Wheately can lock the forums for a short while). We'll also need to be given temporary mod privilages so that we can, when we find it, delete the personal information.


What's classed as personal information?


Well, let's see:



  • Phone numbers
  • Addresses
  • Email addresses
  • Second names
  • Anecdotes about people (I'm thinking it's mostly Zack) that don't really need to be made common knowledge

Etc. Anyway, so I'll need Wheately's help for this, along with everyone else mentioned. The more people who help, the better - but they must be able to be trusted to do the job properly.


After 'the drive' is finished, and we begin filtering in new members, we'll also have to get some firmer rules. Such as:



  • All serious topics where silliness isn't allowed must contain *Serious* in the title.
  • People can't spam incessantly. A little crap-releasing (so to speak) is good, but generally it should be done in the crap-outlet.
  • Obviously people can't flame each other, either.
  • Oh, and I'd suggest that Wheately makes a special star-thing for mods, too - like his Admin one, but different. So it sets them aside...you know what I mean.
  • Plus 'the almighty pie gobbling guru' will soon need to be changed to just 'almighty pie gobbling guru', withought the 'the', because there'll be more than one.

Anyway, if this works, we could have a propsperous, active and professional-looking forum in the not-too-distant future. So - anyone who wants to help with the cleaning up before we open to the public, PM me or reply here. (Please give me a hand)


And Wheately! Can you help?


         


There's an example of the type of thing to be deleted, by the way - because 'David Wheately from Bournemouth, a 16 year-old who went to Summerbee School' isn't really the sort of thing that wants to be bandied about the internet, if you know what I mean. It's for your own safety, er...children.


P.S. - If we get 6 people doing the sorting, we only have to go through 5 pages of topics each (on the main forum). That's not really that much, so don't be put off by the length of time or the amount of effort you think it's going to take.

Okay, sorry to sound all analytical again, but I'd just like to organise what I'm going to say (as it's quite long), so bare with me on this.


a) We won't be deleting the randomness and crap-ness, we'll only be deleting things like phone numbers etc. I assure you, the crap or nonsense content will not decrease.


b) Getting people we don't know will make it more interesting, rather than boring - because there'll be a much wider scope of discussion and, I dare say, crappy nonsense.


c) It's not going to become a formal forum just because we delete some personal info and get some rules. The rules wouldn't even affect us or anyone else who isn't deliberately making trouble etc. They're just to stop people coming along and doing stupid things like Pasty, AKA bob77, did (you know, the 'activeboardgetalife' thing). And the only reason we can't have personal info is so that people don't send us viruses or anything.


Basically, we'd just keep it the same (minus the personal info, plus some loose rules), but with a lot more people!

 Phone numbers Addresses Email addresses: I have tried to delete these anyway when I see them


 Second names Anecdotes about people : Doesn't matter too much, unless a wish is specifically given not to. And you don't need to be a member anyway to look at the forum. If there are any dodgy people about, they can be banned.


 


Also (and I'm not just saying this for my own gain), I think my privileges should be extended to banning users, etc. as I am on here far more than Wheatley and I see all, so it would make sense.


Incidentally, most forums have a group of people that know each other well, and then some that don't. For example www.foreverdelayed.co.uk/forum . For a general idea of what it could be like, click on the 'Everything Else' part of the forum

That's not the point at all.


I'm talking about getting lots of people on here, as in hundreds - if not thousands, eventually.


It's to become a public forum, which could be a great success. We could probably even make a bit of money out of it if it does really well.


P.S. - Yes, I know you're very good at deleting such things, Monster. But still, just to be thorough...
