Page 1 Statutory Notice to Discontinue Summerbee Comprehensive School Notice is hereby given in accordance with section 29(1) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 that Bournemouth Local Education Authority intends to discontinue Summerbee Comprehensive School from 31 August 2004. All pupils currently on roll at Summerbee Comprehensive School will transfer to the newly established Bournemouth Church of England Secondary School. The admissions policy will remain unchanged for September 2004, but a new admissions policy will be introduced with effect from academic year 2005/2006. For 2004/2005 assistance with travel costs in relation to community schools will continue to be available to pupils provided they fulfill the requirements of Bournemouth LEA's transport policy. For 2005/2006 the denominational policy will apply. Within six weeks after the date of publication of these proposals, any person may object to or make comments on the proposals by sending the representations to: Pratap Deshpande (Director of Education), Education Directorate, Dorset House, 20- 22 Christchurch Road, Bournemouth BH1 3NL. Within one month after the end of the representation period, the LEA will send to the School Organisation Committee for the area, copies of all representations made (and not withdrawn in writing) within the representation period, together with the Authority’s observations on them. Signed: Pratap Deshpande, Director of Education, Bournemouth Date: 20 Nov 2003 Explanatory Notes This proposal is dependent on the proposal by Winchester Diocesan Board of Education to establish a new Church of England Voluntary Aided Secondary School which will replace Summerbee Comprehensive School. Both proposals are to be considered in conjunction. Summary of Admissions Policy for September 2005 The present Summerbee Comprehensive admission policy will apply for 2004-05. It is proposed that a new admissions policy will be introduced in September 2005. From 2005, therefore, the governors will plan to admit 180 pupils into Year 7. If there are more than 180 applications, then the governors will firstly allocate places, in priority order, to children in the care of a local authority; children with special educational/social/medical needs which can be met particularly well at this school; children with siblings still at the school when they would start school. The governors will secondly allocate the remaining places in the following proportions: 60% for children within the present Summerbee catchment area; 25% for children whose parents are involved in the worship and work of churches in Bournemouth; 15% for children who attend Church of England primary schools in Bournemouth. These are the key features of the new admissions policy. You can see the full policy on the Council’s website at www.bournemouth.gov.uk, or request a copy from Dorset House, 20-22 Christchurch Road, Bournemouth BH1 3NL.
